Hundreds of Derby dog fans got stuck in the mud to raise 10s of countless pounds for charity. More than 500 individuals led their canine friends around among the UK’s most significant challenge courses at Locko Park last weekend.
Over £66,000 was raised for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home when the charity’s Muddy Dog Challenge occasion concerned the 300-acre nation estate near Spondon on Saturday, May 13. Competitors consisted of Chelsea and Joel who participated with their energetic one-year-old Shih Tzu cross Nev. The couple, who ran in memory of their previous dog Newt, truly got penetrated the difficulty, leaping in ball pits, learning the canine crawl and weaving through the maze.

Chelsea and Joel said: “After we lost Newt, we felt there belonged of our family missing out on and chose to bring our little whirlwind, Nev, home. We genuinely think he was sent here for us by Newt, they share a lot of comparable characteristics, the very best one being their love and love for everybody they satisfy.
“To honour his memory and love for an experience, we felt it was just ideal to fundraise for Battersea in his honour. Nev definitely likes the water and getting as muddy as he potentially can on long strolls, so when we learnt about the Muddy Dog Challenge, we understood it would be the best day out for him.
“Nev had such an enjoyable day wallowing in the mud and was unsurprisingly taken by the water barriers! He’s definitely used himself out now and will be having a well-deserved nap when we get home.
“We’re so pleased we chose to get our fitness instructors on and participate in the MuddyDogChallenge to raise money for dogs similar to Nev who are awaiting their permanently houses. We would suggest it to anybody!”
Following a beginning line warm-up to get energised, individuals of any ages dealt with barriers with their dogs as they learnt the mud at the canine crawl, bounded over the hurdling hounds and sprinkled through the doggy ball pit.
Friends, family and volunteers clapped individuals throughout the goal, where they were each handed a well-earned MuddyDogChallenge medal and a rosette for their dogs.
