Man grateful firemens rescued his dog from downtown fire

Cause of fire and the level of the damage to Durham Street building, businesses stays unidentified

Sudbury firemens fought a downtown fire Wednesday afternoon however since 4:30 p.m. it had yet to be identified how the blaze started or the complete level of the damage. 

The older four-storey building on Durham at the corner of Larch Street has actually belonged to the downtown landscape in Sudbury for years.

The building homes numerous businesses such as Oscar’s Grill, Kulta Vintage, Diamonds, Monteleone Custom Fashions and Thrive Health Foods. There are numerous apartment or condos in the upper floorings of the building. 

“I simply hurried home from work. I got word that the building was on fire,” said homeowner Nick Vardon.

His most instant concern was his dog, Stark, a 75-pound husky shepherd mix that stood anxiously on the window on the 2nd flooring.

There was grey smoke leaking out of the siding on the building and while it was dark in the apartment or condo, it appeared there was smoke inside.

Vardon informed a law enforcement officer on the street, punctuating to the dog in the window. The law enforcement officer then informed a firemen. 

By that time, numerous observers on the street were punctuating at the dog looking down on the enjoyment listed below. 

Within minutes numerous firemens strolled over with an extension ladder. 

Two of the firemens, Jeff Wicklander and Wade Bretschneider, rose. Fire captain Jim Bergeron remained at the bottom of the ladder to constant it.

Once Bretschneider handled to break the side window, he required the dog, which did not instantly pertain to him. He then climbed up into the smokey apartment or condo and obtained the scared animal, which he then went through the window into the waiting arms of firemen Wicklander. The animal was plainly scared, however otherwise looked all right. The firemens brought the dog down the ladder. 

People on the street cheered. 

A member of the Greater Sudbury Paramedic service fulfilled the group at the bottom of the ladder and immediately administered oxygen to the animal, which instantly relaxed.

Vardon said he was more than happy that the firemens had the ability to rescue Stark. He said he was not exactly sure what may occur to his 2 cats, Raphael and Michaelangelo. 

Fire authorities were unable to discuss how the fire may have started or the level of the damage inside.
