I’m sympathetic to the argument by U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) towards eradicating the Snake River dams, (“Leaked document says US is willing to build energy projects in case Snake River dams are breached,” Dec. 1). Those dams retailer water that may be launched to offer a lot wanted non-polluting vitality and different advantages. The reservoirs behind dams are valued as a result of they permit dam operators to supply vitality on the time of most want, not like photo voltaic and wind energy.
I query the logic of spending billions of {dollars} to take away the Snake River dams with out an intensive research of the advantages and cost. It is unlikely the huge salmon runs of pioneer days will ever be seen once more due to environmental harm in drainage basins from logging, paving and air pollution. Additionally. the ocean has been polluted from plastics, chemical substances, waste materials and the looming menace of worldwide warming from local weather change. Fish would obtain extra profit if the billions for proposed dam removing had been as a substitute spent combating international warming.
The dam removing initiatives on the Elwha and Klamath Rivers are very totally different and should show worthwhile.
