GUWAHATI: A ground-breaking discovery has been made by researchers who’ve recognized a secretive and venomous snake often known as the Brown-spotted Pitviper (Protobothrops mucrosquamatus) for the primary time in Assam.

This species was beforehand documented in a number of south-east Asian nations, together with Myanmar, Laos, and China.
Until now, confirmed sightings of the Brown-spotted Pitviper in India had been restricted to Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland.
The recent discovering confirms the presence of this snake in Assam’s Karbi-Anlong district.

Although historic information from 1929 by SH Prater and 1943 by MA Smith indicated the species’ incidence in Assam, it is necessary to notice that at the moment, Assam encompassed the present-day states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.
The snake was found in a bamboo forest patch and swiftly disappeared into close by shrubbery upon encountering the researchers.
