On Thursday, June 8, Paul Bartlett, 58, had actually simply gotten in the woody location of Puddlebrook Playing Fields with Bailey when he identified 2 other dog walkers.

“I might hear them originating from the opposite of the hedge, so I put Bailey on the lead prior to we turned the corner,” he said.

“But among the dogs opted for him instantly. He got on him and locked his teeth into Bailey’s leg.”

With kids playing football simply 10 feet away, Mr Bartlett said he frantically attempted to battle them apart however the other dog was too strong.

“I believe it lasted about 5 minutes and the other person needed to get on top of his dog and punch it in the head,” he included.

“I was totally surprised and informed him his dog ran out control.”

The “vicious” experience left the five-year-old cocker spaniel laying on the ground, bleeding a lot and Mr Bartlett “scooped him up and ran him to a Haverhill veterinarian”.

Hearing of the occurrence later on, Erica Bartlett, 55, said it was “definitely terrible” and the couple could not think that the owners of the dog who assaulted Bailey had actually left the scene.

“He remained in the veterinarians for 5 days, however he’s still not himself,” said Mrs Bartlett.

“It didn’t struck home up until I visited him. I simply put down beside him and break into tears.”
