A golden retriever rescued from an Isle of Man harbour after its canine “mate” raised the alarm was “one very fortunate canine”, the coastguard has mentioned.
A member of the general public noticed the canine “in bother and struggling” close to The Tongue in Douglas interior harbour at about 08:30 GMT on Sunday after its Newfoundland counterpart had “attracted his consideration”.
After calling for the coastguard to be alerted to the scenario, the person climbed on to a ship and grabbed maintain of the animal till the crew arrived and hoisted the canine to security.
Praising the person’s fast actions, a spokesman for Douglas Coastguard mentioned the passer-by had “undoubtedly” saved the animal’s life.
The spokesman mentioned the coastguard had been contacted by the Marine Operations Centre and was quickly on the scene.
He mentioned when the group arrived the golden retriever had begun transfer with the move of the river down the harbour and was “beginning to go beneath” the water.
The canine was “fortunate to be saved” by the person’s fast reactions, he mentioned.
The spokesman mentioned as soon as the stricken animal was again on dry land the rescuers have been capable of “reunite” it with its canine counterpart on the coastguard station.
“We want to thank the member of the general public for his swift motion, which undoubtedly saved the life of 1 very fortunate canine,” he added.
The proprietor of the canine duo was later tracked down by an attraction on social media by the Isle of Man Constabulary.
