A girl walking her canine on a Los Angeles school campus on Christmas Eve was bludgeoned to loss of life with a sledgehammer — and a homeless man has been nabbed within the attack, police mentioned.

The sufferer, who was recognized solely as an Asian girl in her early 60s, was gathering recyclables and walking along with her canine at El Camino College in Torrance round 7 a.m. Sunday when she was attacked by a person brandishing a sledgehammer, reported the station KTLA.

A person walking by the school health club building noticed the sufferer bleeding from a head wound and referred to as the police. Her canine stayed by her aspect.

Paramedics who raced to the scene transported the unconscious girl to a neighborhood hospital, the place she died from her accidents on Christmas Day.

After reviewing surveillance video, campus police, assisted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, recognized the suspect as 40-year-old Jeffrey Davis and shortly arrested him in a close-by park the place he has been recognized to spend time.

Davis is believed to be a homeless person who has had contact with the campus police previously, Sgt. Francisco Esqueda of the El Camino College Police advised KTLA.

Davis was initially booked into the county jail on suspicion of assault with a lethal weapon and tried homicide and ordered held with out bail, according to the Daily Breeze.

As of Thursday, there was no phrase on whether or not Davis would face upgraded prices now that the sufferer has died.

A doable motive for the lethal attack has not been revealed by authorities.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will decide the sufferer’s official reason behind loss of life.

“It’s devastating,” mentioned neighbor Leslie Andersen. “It’s gut-wrenching. I’m still in shock. Our dogs became friends so they would play together and we would talk. Just the sweetest woman.”

El Camino College was closed for winter break on the time of the killing. Classes are scheduled to renew on Jan. 4.
