Akita, which declined to budge after climbing up Scafell Pike, remained ‘positively regal’ as it was brought down by mountain rescue

A mountain rescue group has actually applauded the “cool, calm and positively regal” manner of the topic of a weekend call-out: a hurt and tired dog who got up England’s greatest peak however declined to come down.

The unnamed akita and its owners effectively climbed up Scafell Pike in the Lake District on Saturday.

The difficulty started en route down towards Langdale, Keswick mountain rescue team said. The dog was tired, hurt in some method and “refusing to move”.

A call for help was made at about 6.25pm on Saturday and 13 volunteers from the mountain rescue group sprang into action.

They ultimately met the dog and its owners, who were beginning to feel the cold. After making the dog comfy, they sledged and brought it down the mountain to safety.

“Despite being quite a large dog at 33kg it was a joy to carry such a relatively lightweight casualty,” a representative said. It “remained cool, calm and positively regal throughout”.

After the rescue group published the incident on its FaceBook page there was a blended response.

“Tut, tut, tut,” said a single person. “Well done to all involved but the dog’s owners have a lot to answer for.” Dogs are not implied to be walking on the fells and the climb was certainly too tough, they said.

This caused a perky defence of the dog and taking them on fell strolls. “No judgment please,” said a single person, explaining the dog might have been tired since it was hurt.

“Great job,” said another. “I have an American akita myself and all I can say is not at all surprised. Very independent and stubborn dogs and if they say that’s enough then that’s enough.”

Another remembered the day her 32-kg labradoodle “went on strike” 9 miles into a 10-mile seaside walk in Anglesey. They wound up calling a taxi and said“£35 later and back at my car, said labradoodle recovered and starting doing zoomies around the car”.
