A Tipperary canine rescue centre has needed to shut its doorways to new entrants as a result of it’s unable to search out wherever to accommodate them.
The Haven Rescue Centre has mentioned it has been compelled to ship dogs to kennels as a result of all of its foster properties are full and there’s “no space anywhere else”.
It now believes it’ll be “seriously over capacity” by the point the weekend comes.
The centre is pleading with the general public to think about adopting a pup.
Co-founder Jenny Nolan informed Newstalk there are a number of the reason why so many dogs are being surrendered.
“People just are not putting the thought into these animals,” she mentioned. “Dogs are going to be with you for 15 years, all going nicely.
“There is a housing disaster as nicely. People are shifting again in with dad and mom, persons are shifting homes, they’re shifting again in with dad and mom they usually can’t convey the canine with them.
“Some people are emigrating and they can’t bring the dog with them.”
She mentioned rescue centres across the nation are underneath excessive strain and persons are going to heartbreaking lengths to give up their dogs.
“They can’t get it into a rescue, they can’t get it into the pound, they can’t rehome it themselves, so they are just saying, ‘Oh this is a stray that wandered into me,’” she mentioned.
“We know in our coronary heart and soul that this canine sitting wagging its tail, trying up at their mum or dad, is their very own pet.
“But what can we are saying?
“They are saying they discovered it and it’s not microchipped so there isn’t a manner of tracing it again to an proprietor.
“Some dogs are coming in chipped by their breeders and the breeders are saying, ‘No we don’t want them; we’re not taking them back.’”
Ms Nolan is urging anybody who comes throughout a stray to “do the kind thing” and take it in till assistance is available.
