Officers are now examining the event, and they are appealing for info and requesting for the female who was walking 2 bull dogs, among which was on a lead and among which wasn’t, to come forward.
A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “On April 5, at 2pm a man was walking in the beach location of Lower Pennar when he and his 2 dogs were assaulted by another dog.
“He suffered substantial injuries to his hand and among the dogs passed away as an outcome of the attack.
“Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for anybody who saw a female walking 2 dogs to come forward, and to likewise motivate the female with these dogs to help authorities with their queries.
“The female was referred to as remaining in her mid-30s, and was using a bobble hat.
“She had 2 dogs which are referred to as bull dogs. One was off its lead and was grey with white around its nose. The other dog, which was on a lead, was darker in colour.”
