A Labrador Retriever named Roger has a unprecedented story of inspiration. He was a sniffer canine till he bought fired from the police academy due to his persona. Now, he’s serving to save lives within the aftermath of the Taiwan earthquake.
Dog deemed ‘too friendly’ for drug-sniffing function steals hearts throughout Taiwan earthquake rescue
Roger is an 8-year-old canine who underwent coaching to develop into a drug-sniffing canine, as per People. He obtained coaching in Taichung, Taiwan, on the Customs Administration’s Detector Dog Breeding & Training Center. However, the Lab flunked out due to his “too friendly” temperament as he used to get distracted by any present of affection simply.
Subsequently, the canine went on to develop into part of the search and rescue group. At current, Roger holds the position of a rating officer on the Kaohsiung Fire Bureau.
In 2018, following a 6-magnitude earthquake, Roger went on his first rescue mission. According to the chief of the rescue group, Chen Chih-san, they shortly realized that the canine’s playful persona made him excellent for the job.
After that, Roger has been concerned in seven rescue missions. The most recent of those occurred following the Apr. 3 earthquake alongside the japanese coast of Taiwan.
