Deer Lakes School District is inviting a number of brand-new efforts and team member when classes begin Wednesday.
Spokesman Shawn Annarelli said the district will execute its Portrait of a Learner effort this year, after it remaining in the works for about a year. The application won’t alter the curriculum, however rather boosts it to promote trainee success and wellness, Annarelli said.
The 5 results determined in Portrait of a Learner are imagination, interaction, partnership, empowered citizenship and health, Annarelli said.
“This is one of the most exciting times of the year, and we can’t wait to welcome all staff and students back to school,” Superintendent Janell Logue-Belden said. “In some ways, that is already occurring with continuous work by our staff to implement Portrait of a Learner, orientations at every school building, the marching band preparing for their performances and our athletic teams back in season.”
Cooper, a 3-year-old golden retriever, likewise will be available to high school trainees this year as a treatment dog, Annarelli said.
The dog is owned by high school therapist Tina Pascucci. Annarelli said Pascucci and Cooper started treatment dog training a couple of years earlier in hopes of having the ability to serve the high school.
“We feel strongly he’s going to offer great support to our students,” Annarelli said.
The district’s IT department likewise set up Boxlight MimioBoards — an interactive, touch white boards — in all district class.
“We are always looking for ways to improve student outcomes, and we believe the Boxlight MimioBoards will be a great resource for teachers and students in the classroom,” Annarelli said.
Deer Lakes Middle School likewise will invite a brand-new assistant principal, Nick LaMantia. LaMantia formerly was an assistant principal at Highlands High School.
LaMantia made his doctorate in instructional management and administration from Point Park University.
New instructors consist of Natalie Travaglia, a life abilities instructor at the high school; Nick Amrhein, an intermediate school social research studies instructor; Alex Gigler, an intermediate school STEM instructor; Sophia Frye, a very first grade instructor at Curtisville Primary Center; Kevin Hughes, an intermediate school computer technology instructor; and Hannah Szalay, an intermediate school unique education instructor.
