An Essex canine proprietor cleared all competitors together with his Bavarian Mountain Hound Bear to seize Best of Breed glory on their first ever journey to the canine present Crufts. Dan Cockett, 51, entered the celebrated present as a novice together with his working canine and was thrilled to choose up the enviable prize.
Bear, from Southminster, wowed the judges on the NEC in Birmingham to carry off stiff competitors and qualify for the Best in Group showpiece on the well-known inexperienced carpet. He stated: “It feels superb and fairly surreal, it’s solely the third canine present I’ve ever been to.
“I got into dog showing through a friend of mine who persuaded me to come along. We’re not used to the show ring, he’s a working dog and normally out on the field with me. The experience has been nerve-wracking for a novice like myself, especially to get as far as this so it’s still all sinking in at the moment.”

They have been unable to go all the best way and e book their place in Sunday evening’s Best in Show finale however nonetheless loved a day to recollect on the world’s greatest canine present. Solihull native hero and dog-showing star Melanie Raymond grabbed glory – and admitted the nerves ‘melted away’ when she stepped onto the inexperienced carpet with Australian Shepherd Viking.
The 46-year-old, who lives fewer than 5 miles away from the NEC in Birmingham, trumped greater than 18,000 exhibiting dogs who competed throughout 4 spectacular days within the Midlands. “When you go through certain emotions, it builds a bond because you feel you have that energy between you and it’s a bond that you can’t describe. I live in Solihull, it’s quicker for me to walk than drive here, it’s brilliant and my friends all come and stay – what a great experience.”
Crufts, run by The Kennel Club, is a singular celebration of glad, wholesome dogs and of the loving relationship that they get pleasure from with their homeowners.
