“But at this yoga session, I was sitting in a padmasana pose, and one of the puppies, a tiny brown ball of fur, curled up on my lap and went to sleep in half a minute,” she stated.
“It was the most adorable thing to ever happen to me. I was thrilled and surprised. I also felt proud and like ‘the chosen one’ because this puppy picked my lap for his nap. It absolutely made my day,” she added.
While such artwork and train classes are thrilling for the human members, it is usually useful for the furry attendees.
“We organise these events with puppies to facilitate experiential adoption sessions,” stated Subhashree Mahadevan, who, together with three pals from faculty, began an initiative known as Pawga, which hosts these occasions in Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and several other different cities.
“The puppies are brought from NGOs and shelters by the volunteers to these sessions. Many times, a person attending such a session would bond with a puppy, and then apply to adopt it. The puppies, many of which have experienced some kind of trauma, come out of their shells, and realise that these humans are safe to be around and play with,” Mahadevan instructed TOI.
This initiative aimed toward spreading the message of adopting as an alternative of shopping for dogs is the necessity of the hour, believes Geetanjali Desai, founding father of Saahas for Animal’s Foundation, a nongovernmental organisation primarily based in Nigdi working for rescue animals.

“The number of pedigree dogs who have been rescued and come to us in the past few months has increased. Many get the dogs because they are fascinated by the idea of owning a pet, but when they realise the expense and effort behind taking care of them, the poor pets either get ignored or abandoned. This must stop,” Desai stated.
“Sessions like Pawga help shelters like ours reach an audience that otherwise is beyond us. Even those who aren’t particularly animal lovers spend some time and feel a connection with the puppies. When we have an animal up for adoption, we usually send a mes sage in our volunteer groups, who forward it to their friends and family. Events like these increase our reach and help the dogs get adopted a lot faster,” she added.
After the final Pawga session, two onemonth-old Indie puppies from Saahas have been adopted. The NGO had been making an attempt to get them adopted for almost two weeks earlier than the occasion, however have been unsuccessful.
Once somebody applies to undertake one of many puppies, the shelters then vet them and be certain that the canine shall be secure with the individual, earlier than truly handing the puppy over.
Puja Khare, a pet mother or father from Undri, lately held a “paint with your pet” get together to have a good time her beagle’s birthday. “The aim was to have a fun activity that our friends could enjoy with their pets,” Khare stated.
“I found many videos online of such paint parties, where you squeeze out some paint on canvas and then cover it up with cling wrap to make sure it can’t come off. You then let your dog lick the cling wrap from the outside to spread the paint inside. We tried this and it worked.”
She added: “My friends got to take home beautiful memories of my pet’s birthday and works of art made by their pets.”
