Amy Coey had been with mates walking her young cockapoo Tess in Belvoir Park Forest, which runs alongside the south financial institution of the River Lagan, on Easter Monday.
But it almost turned to tragedy when Tess entered the water.
“My dog is really good with recall because I’ve been working with her on that, so I took her on a walk around Belvoir and she was playing with another dog, but the next thing she was off the path and I couldn’t see her, so I called her but she didn’t come,” Amy (33) defined.
“The next thing I heard a man say to me, ‘your dog is in the water’ so I panicked.”
Amy stated that this man was down by the river along with his personal canine, which gave the impression to be a cocker spaniel, and it was coming out and in of the water confidently.
However, she discovered Tess was treading water for her life.
“It was a muddy bank, and it was quite deep and slippery,” Amy added. “She just couldn’t catch a grip to get herself out.
“Also, the current was quite bad and the river was very high, and I was trying to stay calm, but I shouted for my friend’s help.
“While she was running towards me, this man literally just said ‘hold my phone’ and I grabbed him, so he leant down closer to the water and reached out over the river edge for my dog. I panicked because I didn’t know how long she would be able to tread water before drowning or getting carried away from the current, but he was so calm.
“He grabbed her out and then gave her to my friend and I pulled him back up.”
Amy stated that whereas she thanked the stranger, she was in shock and he calmly replied ‘no problem’ earlier than walking on along with his personal pooch. Now, she wish to communicate to him correctly to specific her gratitude.
“He was so casual and there were a few people that walked up as soon as Tess was rescued, and they were all saying we were so lucky because the current was quite strong that day,” she continued.
Tess is barely a yr and a half old, and Amy obtained her when she was only a pup at eight weeks.
She continues to be fairly small for her breed, and Amy stated she now can’t think about life with out her canine good friend. “I’ve wanted a dog since I was four years old and when I got married, getting Tess was nearly the first thing we did, because my husband had known how much I wanted a dog.
“Anyone that knows me knows I am so in love with my dog and I literally can’t imagine what I would have been like; if he (the mystery man) hadn’t been there and reacted so quickly, I don’t even want to think about what would have happened.”
Amy stated the thriller rescuer gave the impression to be in his 40s and he had dark-framed sq. glasses and darkish, barely lengthy hair.
“It would be really nice to find him and thank him properly, and I also want to raise awareness of how to be careful when the currents are strong,” she stated.
