A complete of 54 incidents of indoor pets by chance inflicting home fires had been reported within the decade between fiscal 2013 and 2022, in accordance with a recent report from the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE).
The most important trigger of those incidents had been cats and dogs triggering fuel range operation buttons whereas their house owners had been away. NITE has urged pet house owners to take heightened precautions, resembling shutting off most important fuel valves when not in use.
Among the reported circumstances outlined by NITE, a major proportion — totaling 26 incidents — had been attributed to pets activating fuel or induction heating range controls. In two of the incidents, the cats accountable had been killed within the hearth they brought on.
