A cat was rescued by firefighters after spending two days caught in a chimney.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) stated the pet, known as Oreo, scampered up the chimney at a home in Bexley, south-east London, when the vacuum cleaner was switched on.

Ryan Senior-Ellison from LFB stated Oreo’s proprietor turned “more and more apprehensive when he would not come down”.

Teams used a turntable ladder to rescue the trapped animal.

Crews from from Bexley and Greenwich hearth stations have been despatched to the scene after a name on the morning of 29 March, with one hearth engine, a fireplace rescue unit and a 32m (105ft) turntable ladder.

Sub officer Senior-Ellison stated: “In the tip, due to the crews’ exhausting work and implausible efforts, Oreo was reunited along with his proprietor.”

An LFB spokesperson added: “We all the time encourage folks to name the RSPCA or one other animal rescue organisation within the first occasion and we’ll help if our specialist tools is required, as on this case.

“Firefighters love animals and we’re prepared, keen and capable of help distressed or injured animals – the very last thing we wish is for folks to place themselves in danger rescuing an animal themselves.”
