A pregnant lady has turned to the web for some much-needed recommendation after an argument together with her accomplice over their unborn daughter’s name.
The couple have found themselves in a bit of a pickle, as the husband refuses to let go of his ‘perfect’ choice for the baby’s name, despite his wife having ‘issues’ with it.
The mum-to-be has since taken to Reddit to share her dilemma, explaining that the name in question is Zoe.
Now, we know what you’re thinking, this name seems harmless enough, right?!
It’s hardly a rogue choice, compared to others we’ve heard, but, according to the post, there’s a bit extra to it.
The 27-year-old spouse explains that she isn’t eager on the title Zoe as that is what her husband had named his pet cat, that has since died.
To make issues worse, it was a cat he shared along with his ex.
She mentioned: ‘Zoe is the name of my husband’s cat that handed away once we first began relationship.
‘Not only that, but the cat was a gift from an ex-girlfriend that they intended on taking care of together. When they broke up, they had “joint custody” until she died.’
She claims she ‘gently’ instructed her husband she didn’t wish to title their daughter after his lifeless cat, however he wouldn’t let it go.
The publish provides: ‘He told me to think about it, reasoning that it fit our criteria (short names, bully-proof, cute, unique so that nobody else in her class will have it, but not so unique that people won’t know learn how to pronounce it,) and he thought of cat-Zoe like a daughter to him.
‘I jokingly responded, “So you want to name our baby after your kid from your last marriage?”
‘He didn’t snort. Instead, he bought defensive. He mentioned it wasn’t like that. I mentioned that I didn’t actually like the concept of naming our daughter after one thing that he related along with his final relationship.
‘He started getting teary-eyed, presumably because he was thinking about his dead pet. He then responded with “Fine, it’s your baby. Name it whatever you want.”‘
Since this conversation the mum-to-be has been left wondering if she’s in the wrong and is being too stubborn. She claims her husband no longer ‘cares’ about any other baby name suggestions and she’s unsure how to rectify the situation.
In the comments many people were quick to agree that the woman wasn’t an a**hole for not wanting to use the name, as they too found his choice to be a bit odd.
Some branded the husband’s behaviour ‘problematic’ and ‘weird’ and urged the pair to get couple’s counselling if they genuinely couldn’t move forward and pick another name.
Others instead suggested they follow the ‘two yes/one no rule’ which states that both parents (two yes) need to agree on the name and that either one of them can say no to a name that the other chooses without question at any time.
A number of alternative baby name options were also shared in the comments, including Ella, Ava, Chloe, Felicity, Hailey, Nova, and Ivy.
This comes after the most popular baby names of 2023 were revealed and Zoe was in the rankings, coming in at 45 on the top 100 list for girls’ names.

Numerous traditional names make up the highest 10 spots, with Olivia coming in first place.
Olivia was intently adopted by Amelia, Isla, Lily and Ava in rounding out the highest 5 spots. And for the boys, the primary title was Muhammad, because it has been for a number of years in a row.
Noah took the second spot, with Theo in third, Leo in fourth and Oliver in fifth place.
