I discover myself in an ethical dilemma. A feral cat brought to life 4 kittens in my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5-speed (aka the “Holy Grail”). I have an option to make: Do I simply leave the family alone, or do I take this chance to attempt to adopt-out the kittens while they’re young, flexible and charming? I’ve picked to do the latter, however I’m still a little conflicted.
I feel a bit strange stating I’ve “rescued” a 2nd kitten; there’s something a little big-headed about that expression. No, I recorded another kitten since I’ve chosen that it’s much better for the kitten if it lives inside with a family than in a business car park. I’ve chosen that I understand finest in this circumstance. I feel strange about that, though I comprehend that rationally, these doubts are ridiculous: A cat in captivity can get health care, it gets constant food, it’s secured from predators (like cars and trucks), and it’s statistically going to live a lot longer than a comparable feral cat. But I’m likewise taking 2 extremely essential things from these cats: family and flexibility.
I battled with that last night as I set down a cat-trap in the Galpin Media car park and seen as the staying 3 kittens that as soon as resided in my Jeep approached.
You can see all 3 kittens in the image listed below:
The mom, Zee, hid closeby:
It took all of 30 seconds in between me setting the trap and this charming button walking right in:
The image above programs Jaws, our very first “rescue” (if you wish to utilize that word) conference its brother or sister (Jaws he hissed a bit)— tentatively called “Mango” — for the very first time in weeks. Mango, it’s worth keeping in mind, understands us from a couple of weeks earlier, when my friend selected her up (we put her back in the Jeep, considering that we were going on holiday, and since we didn’t wish to take her from her mom, who may have still been nursing her).
Upon bringing Mango home, my friend and I put the kitten in a restroom; she was terrified, cring in the litterbox:
Mango was peaceful, however, and let me pet her (I used gloves simply to be safe):
Curious, Jaws snuck upstairs and smelled around the base of the restroom door:

We left Mango in the restroom all night, and woke up to discover: Mango was gone! How?! The restroom was small, the windows were closed — there was no chance out!
Well, cats are smart; mango handled to discover a small crevice underneath/inside the toilet. Look at this!:
Look at how little that space was under the throne:
As my arms were too big to fit back there, friend wore her snowboarding gloves and snagged Mango. We then right away cleaned the kitten with Dawn meal soap and water.
There were fleas all over Mango — huge ones best beside her eyes! My friend and I selected off as lots of as we could. Mango was actually mild — never ever attempted scratching or biting. She’s a really charming kitten.
The water in the sink after cleaning her was revolting — dark gray. No question that restroom had actually smelled so bad when we’d strolled because early morning. She was dirty and flea-covered. Poor kitten.
We simply returned from the veterinarian; Mango appears to be healthy. She may have an upper breathing infection, or a minimum of the starts of one, so we’re treating her for that. We’re looking after the fleas, we’re going through all the vaccination things, and so on. Sadly, we need to keep Jaws and Mango different for a number of weeks while the medication does its thing.
I can’t await them to hang out.
I hope I’m doing the best thing, here. In my viewpoint, Jaws looks happy, so this feels right. Right? I’ll likely keep Jaws and among the other kittens (possibly Mango), then adopt the other 2 Jeep Kittens out. Then I’ll have Zee, the mother (and other cats in the nest) repaired so regarding keep the population under control. I’ve chosen this is the best thing to do, however once again, who am I to make such huge choices in a living being’s life?
But alas, one progresses and does one’s finest.
