The not-for-profit Ferndale Cat Shelter is looking for contributions after taking in 18 kittens and 27 adult cats from a regional home.
Deanne Ivon, executive director of the state-licensed not-for-profit shelter, invested about 5 hours Monday crating and transferring the cats from the home – a carload at a time – to the shelter at 686 Livernois in Ferndale.
Once the cats were at the shelter Monday they needed to be triaged, Ivon said.
“We had to check each of them for things such as fleas and injuries” and their basic health,” she said. “They are all surprisingly healthy.”
