WINTHROP — The FRIENDS No-Kill Cat Shelter prepares to dive into kitten season with a Kitten Kerplunk, an early spring swim, from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Winthrop Town Beach on Bowdoin Street.

Cold water swimming is said to enhance ones body immune system, boost flow and increase ones psychological health. People can dip into Maranacook Lake while assisting to raise funds to look after the kittens and cats at the not-for-profit shelter at 188 Case Road in East Winthrop, according to a press release from Virginia Baghdoyan, chairperson of the buddies Board of Directors.

Participants are asked to collect contributions from as lots of sponsors as possible prior to May 13.

Swimmers will go into the water together in 3 waves — 9:30, 10 and 10:30 a.m. They need to reach the beach a minimum of 15 minutes prior to their picked wave to sign in and return sponsor sheets and contributions.

Plenty of parking is available at Norcross Point, along the roadway by the lake and throughout the street at the American Legion, in between 9 and 11 a.m. just.

First-, second- and third-place rewards will be granted for the most contributions gathered. Unregistered or unsponsored swimmers might sign up at the beach on the occasion day for $15. Anyone younger than 16 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
