Decoding fashion week  usually consists of:  analysing sartorial trends, seeing which of the global fashion-set attended which shows and seeing which looks we can recreate with items from our wardrobe (here’s five tips to help with that).

And then came Doja Cat. The singer was the most unexpected gift from couture week, serving the most elite, avant-garde looks for four whole days. She won the FROW fashion icon award, hands down. Even those who don’t care for fashion week know about the singer’s Inferno inspired red look from Schiaparelli’s show on monday. But the Get Into It singer didn’t stop there. She served three more incredible ensemble. And we’re here to decode them all.

Doja Cat at Schiaparelli

Schiaparelli couture SS23

Talk about starting the week off with a bang. When Doja Cat stepped out head-to-toe in red, we knew Daniel Roseberry had arrived. His SS23 couture show was based on Dante Aligheiri’s book Inferno, detailing Dante’s journey through hell. Doja certainly brought the fire with her glowing crystal-embellished look.

Schiaparelli broke down Doja’s exact look on Instagram saying: “Doja Cat Couture, from process to finale. @dojacat in 30 000 @swarovski crystals applied by hand by @patmcgrathreal at the @schiaparelli Haute Couture SS23 show held at Petit Palais in Paris. Red silk faille bustier. Hand-knit skirt of lacquered wooden beads.Trompe l’œil red toe boots.” Iconic.

Doja Cat at Viktor & Rolf

Viktor & Rolf Couture 2023

Once the controversy-fuelled conversations about Schiaparelli’s prosthetic wild animal heads had calmed down, it was Viktor & Rolf’s turn to get people standing on their heads with its “Late Stage Capitalism Waltz” show containing upside-down dresses. This time Doja Cat sported a “power dressing” couture look according to the brand. Sounds like something we’ve all done from time to time, right?

Well, unless you’ve worn fake eyelashes as moustache and eyebrows, you haven’t done it like Doja (who did so giving Salt Bae vibes). She wore a dramatic tan and white pinstripe two piece that took ‘oversized blazer’ beyond comprehension, paired with matching cigarette trousers and a green and white blouse. Eagle-eyed beauty fans noticed the lack of eyelashes in her Schiaparelli look, and the 27-year-old teased at her use of lashes before the show.

She posted an Instagram story saying “If lashes are what you all want, then lashes are what you’ll get. See you at Viktor and Rolf”. It appears Pat Mcgrath’s addition of the lashes was an ad-hoc addition to her look in retaliation to haters. Either way, we are here for the pettiness.

Doja Cat at Valentino

Valentino Couture 2023

Though Doja’s previous looks were mesmerising, they’re probably not ones we’d recreate in a hurry for a dinner party with friends (although if that’s your drink of choice, you do you).  Her Valentino front-row accessory, however, has taken our breath away.

A black mini skirt with Calzedonia tights, a diamante bustier and a long black jacket seems like a relatively tame outfit for the extravagant dresser.

But in her hand was a custom diamond handbag with sculpted fingers (reportedly worth $20,000) that literally held a whole bottle of Patron, and fans went wild. The master behind this sensational bag was jeweller Chris Habana, whose eponymous label created Beyonce’s Halo Crown she wore to perform in Dubai last week.

Chris commented on Instagram “Ahhhh Doja you look insane in the look and bag thank you @brettalannelson and @patron for working with us on this.” Epic.

Doja Cat at Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier Couture SS23

Of course Doja Cat was also going to attend the JPG show – she famously wore a head-to-toe haute-couture vinyl catsuit look from the brand to the Grammys in 2021.

Perhaps she was exhausted from the top-notch effort she’d put into her outfits from the week, as she eschewed any extravagant head-gear or too many false lashes, and made dramatic eyeliner the focus of her look.

She wore a stunning structured shocking-blue leather trench coat, also with Calzedonia tights, and a pair of Amina Muaddi’s Angelica Plateau Leather platform pumps. To accessorise her coat, she wore 90s inspired square sunglasses and carried… a bunch of grapes?

There’s simply no other word than iconic.
