It was a capacity at today’s Remembrance Day Service in the Legion Auditorium. In addition to the regional citizens who remained in participation there were likewise regional dignitaries, organizational leaders, WWII Battle Veteran Howard Schmidt, this year’s War Mom, Mrs. Ruth Schultz and guest speaker Captain Craig Bird.
The Remembrance Day Service opened with the Sergeant-At-Arms March on the Colours. The President of the Weyburn Legion, Brian Glass provided the inviting remarks, and Pastor Marjorie McLeod provided the Call to Praise and Prayer of Invocation.
Pastor McLeod presented this year’s War Mom, Mrs. Ruth Schultz, whose hubby and 2 bros served in WWII. It was when Personal Schultz got back on short-term leave that he rapidly wed Rose. Today Mrs. Schultz is 102 and continues to live separately in her own apartment or condo.
The Reading of the Wreath Donations was provided by Jerry Ponto and Yvonne Jones provided the greetings from the Federal government of Canada on behalf of Dr. Robert Kitchen Area, MP. Dustin Duncan, MLA provided the provincial greetings, while Deputy Mayor Mel Van Betuw provided the greetings from the City of Weyburn on behalf of Mayor Marcel Roy.
Throughout the service the Variations Chorus group sang accompanied by pianist Phyllis Massier with Colleen Weimer carrying out.
” On the 19th of August in 1942, the Dieppe Raid or Operation Jubilee as it was understood then and the South Saskatchewan Routine had actually been training in England for two-years prior to that, due to the fact that they were trying to find guys to perform this raid. The Canadian contingent was picked to participate in the raid, the majority of individuals who participated were Canadian soldiers. Bird continued to describe that of the 89 guys who were taken as detainees of war, 3 passed away while in captivity.
The service closed with God Conserve the King, Sergeant-At-Arms March off the Colours, closing remarks were provided by President Brian Glass with the Praise provided by Pastor Victoria Mwamasika.
