Dr. Charles Edward Bird

M.D., C.M., Queen’s University, (1956), FRCP (C) 1962, PhD. (McGill) 1967, FACP 1972. Professor Emeritus, Queen’s University died March 21, 2024. Cherished husband of Irene M. Pascoe. Predeceased by his loving spouse of 37 years, Carole V. Blad. Dearly remembered by his kids Susan C. Bird and David C. Bird and by his grandchildren: Devon, Eleanor and Charlie. Charles shall be missed by his brother John Bird (Mary) and their kids (Michael and Lisa). He was predeceased by his brother Peter and his spouse Patricia. He shall be remembered by Peter’s daughters (Kathryn and Sharon). The Blad household in Prescott have been usually in Charles’s thoughts, with many fond reminiscences of glad instances spent collectively. Charles shall be lovingly remembered by Irene’s kids Steve Pearce (Gail), Blake Pearce (Laurel), Corinne Lyons (Kerry) and Jeffrey Pearce. He shall be fondly recalled as “Papa Doc” by Irene’s grandchildren Adam, Lindsay, Stacey (Aaron), Ryan Emily, Scott (Karri) and Marie. He liked listening to concerning the great-grandchildren Alexander, Sienna, Ellis, Fitzgerald and Quincy.
Dr. Bird obtained his M.D.C.M. from Queen’s University and did postgraduate coaching in Kingston after which in Toronto with Dr. J. C. Laidlaw and in Montreal with Dr. S. Solomon. He returned to the Department of Medicine at Queen’s in 1965 as an M.R.C. Scholar. Dr. Bird spent most of his profession in medical investigation along with his greatest pal and colleague Dr. Albert Clark. Their analysis centered on the affect of hormones on sure cancers. This resulted in quite a few publications in North American and European scientific journals. His instructing and affected person care have been strongly influenced by Dr. D. L. Wilson and Dr. E.R. Yendt. He was appointed Associate Dean of Research within the Faculty of Medicine in 1974. Dr. Bird was chosen by the graduating class of medical college students because the 1991 recipient of the W. F. Connell Award for excellence in medical instructing. He was appointed as Emeritus Professor of Medicine in 1996. Much of his early retirement was spent in studying and instructing about computer systems.
Charles and Irene had many glad instances at their cottage on the south shore of Howe Island and loved many lengthy winters in sunny Bradenton, Florida. They travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and throughout Canada. As his well being declined, Charles spent a lot time studying thriller novels.

Funeral preparations by James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston. Friends shall be obtained Friday, April 5, 2024, between 2:00 – 5:00 pm on the funeral home. A Celebration of Life shall be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Barriefield, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 10:00 am. A reception will comply with within the church corridor.
