North Carolina Bird Atlas Team to begin ‘Big Atlas Weekend’
Published 1:11 pm Thursday, June 15, 2023
Bird fans in our location will quickly have a possibility to participate in some extensive bird atlasing and participate in some friendly competitors.
In 2021, the NC Wildlife Resources Commission started a 5-year statewide citizen-science task, the NC Bird Atlas.
Harnessing the power of countless volunteer birdwatchers, reported observations throughout this time will help map the circulation and abundance of birds from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Outer Banks. These observations will offer scientists a thorough photo of bird populations throughout the state and the information collected will then guide preservation efforts.
On June 16, the NC Bird Atlas Team will host a “how to participate” webinar from 6-7 p.m. The discussion will consist of Atlas Basics and respond to any concerns you may have.
On June 21, register to go to the virtual “kickoff” of the Big Atlas Weekend, from 6-8 p.m., with an Introduction by Atlas organizers followed by Trivia Game, led by the NC Bird Atlas group. You need to sign up for this occasion.
On June 23-25, from 6 p.m. on Friday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, go atlasing! Choose any under-visited top priority block and simply observe! Be sure to send your list through the North Carolina Breeding Bird Atlas website in eBird. All details can be discovered at www.ebird.org/atlasnc/.
