Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (Bristol A.R.C.), Bristol’s oldest and largest local animal charity, has been inundated with an increase of abandoned young animals.

In the past two weeks alone, they have received two litters of kittens, a fox cub and two new puppies, Spud and Edward, who were born at the centre to a mum who had been abandoned without any form of identification. They are doing well and she is taking great care of her puppies.

Bristol A.R.C. anticipates a continued rise in abandoned animals in the coming months with kitten season coming up and 621 domestic and wild animals admitted at the animal centre last year.

This has put a strain on the centre’s resources and demanding valuable staff especially since the organisation is self-funded and depend entirely on local support within the community to fund their vital work.

Nevertheless, Bristol A.R.C.’s commitment to the welfare of all animals remains unwavering and they explain how the community can support the animal centre.

Jodie Hayward, Animal Home Manager at Bristol A.R.C., shared: “Neutering is paramount to prevent unplanned litters and mitigate the cycle of abandonment, ensuring the well-being of both wildlife and domestic animals. Our ability to provide care for these vulnerable animals relies heavily on donations from our community. Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to offer the level of care these animals desperately need.

“As we witness these innocent creatures in their time of need, it’s a stark reminder of the critical role we play in their survival and well-being. They rely on us for safety, compassion, and a chance at a better life. Now, more than ever, we urge the public to join us in our mission to provide care for these vulnerable animals. With your support, we can ensure their safety and give them the chance to not only survive, but flourish.”
