  1. Re: Off Leash K9 training Melbourne, FL.

I have been trying to contact someone in corporate, ownership, or management. Nick White himself would be even better. However, my messages are not being answered.

I do not doubt that Nick White’s personal skills in dog training produces great results. However, I can not say the same for his franchises. Specifically, the Melbourne Florida location.

Our German Shepherd, Chief, completed the two week board and train about three weeks ago now. Our trainer, Pearl, kept us updated with a video of Chief’s progress every single day. She was able to demonstrate on video our dog doing all of the basic commands including sit, come, down, place, heel and extended down. However, on the final day when we met our trainer at a local park to pick up our dog at the end of the two week board and train program, Chief was not able to demonstrate anything! He was spooked by his surroundings including a train, kids riding scooters, cars, motorcycles, and his extreme excitement to see us again. Pearl, our trainer, was very upset, near tears and very apologetic. She insisted on coming to our house to continue working with Chief to show us that he could do what he was trained to do and she would not give up on us even though the two weeks was over. We tried to console her and be as understanding as we could be. We thanked her for her commitment.
She did come to our house one day and worked with us and our dog. We also continued to work with our dog without the trainer as well. After a few days of him being home we were able to see that he was following all of the basic commands. We told the trainer that we did not feel like she needed to come back again unless she just wanted to.

There was still one issue that we have not been able to conquer and that is Chief’s over-reacting or, aggression towards other animals. We don’t know if he’s wanting to play or fight the other animals. He’s only 10 months old but, he’s almost 90 pounds already. We have been working with him but, the work definitely needs to continue.

In the last couple of weeks we are seeing that Chief has certain “triggers” that the e-collar simply does not control. The over-reacting (or, aggression?) towards other animals is the main one. I’ve had the e-collar on 70 and it did not stop him. I recently got as high as 90 and although he yelps, he keeps going after what he wants. I had to take him to an Emergency Vet because he hurt his back keg while trying to get to our neighbor’s dog. Nothing I did would stop him. This e-collar is just not strong enough for our dog.

We feel like our trainer gave us a great basic foundation to build upon. However, your company’s website guarantees that your dog will be 100% obedient, 100% distraction proof, and trained like a “police/military dog”. Our dog is nowhere near trained to that level. -Not even close!!!

Your website also guarantees 100% satisfaction. We are definitely not 100% satisfied. We know we can still call our trainer and she will come back again to work with us. But, she simply can not produce what we were sold.

If you don’t have the time or the patience to work with your dog, the two week board and train will give you a fantastic start with all the basic commands. However, it will not buy you a military/police level of training. And, in our opinion based on the company’s web site, that is exactly what you SHOULD expect -and get, for this price point.

My biggest complaint is that we were expecting training and obedience equivalent to police/military dog training because that is what the web site promises. I don’t expect our dog to sniff out narcotics or search for a criminal’s scent. But, the ABSOLUTE obedience of those dogs IS exactly what we expected. What we got is basic commands training. I do not see “police/military” style obedience or training at all. I mean, everyone KNOWS when they see a police/military dog in public. They are laser focused on their handler and NO distraction will stop them from following commands. THAT is what we expected. 100% obedient and 100% distraction proof. Because, THAT is what is advertised!!! That, is not what we got!

We weren’t even concerned about or, interested in our dog learning to be “off leash” because we would never have him like that in public for safety reasons. But, we still expected 100% complete obedience and 100% distraction free attention from our dog.

Your web site promises a 100% guarantee. Based on the fact that no one will respond to me, it appears that you and/or your franchise owner will not stand behind that guarantee. More of the same style training we’ve already received will not equate to “police/military” training. I want to believe that Off Leash K9 training is a legit, respectable, honorable company that I thought it was. However, I am now questioning that.

In our opinion, our trainer is not trained or qualified to produce a “police/military” style of training -and that is not her fault. That is the company’s fault! So, no. We are not interested in more of the same training. Our trainer told us “Sit, come, down, place, heel, and extended down is what’s guaranteed from the two week board and train. All of that is great but, that’s not what the web site “guarantees”. I think we all know, FAR more goes into the training of a police/military dog. If basic commands were all those dogs ever learned, they would be of no help to officers at all.

We fully expected to CONTINUE the training when we got our dog back. But, we did not expect to BE the trainer in order to get our dog to the level you promised. If all I wanted was basic commands training, that is the program I would have selected.

Will this company do the right thing? Will anyone ever contact me? Nick White, I hope you see this!!!! More importantly, I hope you care about your company’s reputation and will appreciate the information I just gave you and will actually do something about it!
