Me personally I would have had him in a separate kennel all day so he couldn’t see the females. Then later on bring him around them so that smell can hit him and then he’ll be ready to hit something. If he not big into breeding he really not going to want to breed if she with him all day you got to make him want to see her then he’ll be thinking dang who been trying to hit my female while I been gone. It’s like when be feeding some dogs who go off food for a while because you leave food in with them all day yeah he might eat some here or there but if you bringing in some fresh food they’ll be more interested in the new food even if it’s the same type of food that’s been sitting in there bowl all day. Dogs is weird that way.
