This academic video shares my surgical methods of tail amputation or docking for vets in growing nations that don’t ban tail docking in puppies.
Many pet house owners and breeders use rubber bands to strangulate the blood provide of the tail. The tail finish turns into gangrenous and drops off after over 7 days. That is painful for the pet. It’s best to get your vet to do it beneath anaesthesia if the pet is greater than 3 days outdated. For puppies lower than 3 days outdated, anaesthesia shouldn’t be historically given.
UPDATE IN 2020: Tail docking is banned in Singapore. Toa Payoh Vets don’t provide this service.

This mutilation serves to damage the diaphragm, anus and bladder muscles, PREDISPOSING EARLY DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE (hmmm… wonder why so many Doberman pinschers develop dialated cardiomyopathy? Definitely not because we remove the most important artery in the body…) and let’s not forget that we are predisposing the dogs to sciatic nerve pain, all in the name of fashion. Disgusting.
