This video is my contribution to veterinary anaesthesia sharing an example of my usage of injectable anaesthesia in the spay of felines with more youthful veterinarians who might want to understand more about does for injectable anaesthetics.

Injectable anaesthesia can be a safe, timely and reliable approach of anaesthesia in making sterile a cat. Isoflurane + oxygen gas are perfect as they are much safer anaesthetics compared to injectables.

In some nations, the purchase of anaethetic makers and isoflurane and the repair work need far more financial investment.

Injectable anaesthetics are simply as safe if they are given up proper dose in the spays and neuters of felines that are finished within thirty minutes, in my experience.

As part of my sharing of medical research study understanding for veterinarians launching, I have actually discovered that Xylazine 0.15 ml + Ketamine 0.6 ml IM in one syringe for a 3.6 kg young female cat work if the veterinarian can finish the spay within thirty minutes as in this case. The duration of analgesia is around thirty minutes for this dose.

Topping up with more injectables or isoflurane + Oxygen gas was not essential in this case. The Maine Coon has actually recuperated from spay as at Mar 24, 2014 (5 days post spay).

For felines less than 3 kg, I utilize Xylazine 20 + Ketamine 100 at 0.1 ml + 0.4 ml respectively. For felines over 4 kg, the mix will be 0.2 ml + 0.8 ml respectively.

In this caterwauling Maine Coon of 3.6 kg, I utilized 0.15 ml + 0.6 ml IM respectively. Analgesia lasted around thirty minutes and the spay was finished in the nick of time without the requirement to top up with isoflurane + oxygen gas.

When I began practice some 40 years earlier, I utilized Xylazine 0.2 ml IM and after that isoflurane + O2 gas upkeep by mask to purify the cat.

Each veterinarian will have his/her own choices.

  1. I used to obtain ketimine to treat my own animals which I obtained from the vet but they no longer let me have it to treat my animals. How can I get this drug and rompum?

  2. Dr Sing Kong, thank you very much for the video and the valuable info. Is there any draw backs from mixing both Xylazine + Katamine in one shot IM ? does Xylazine induce vomiting as usual ? Should we intubate in case we will not use inhalation+O2 ? Hope to receive reply from your side.

  3. Very good video, however, have you ever thought of replacing the xyzaline with dex domitor? Less chance of vomiting and it has less of a cardiovascular depressant. It's an alpha 2 agonist. It can also reduce the amount of servo or iso you have to use by up to 70 percent, esp in such a short procedure.
