A venomous snake has been spotted in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp days before the all-star line-up is set to enter.

The red-bellied black snake, which is commonly encountered in eastern Australia, slithered onto the New South Wales set during a rehearsal, close to a member of the crew.

While the creature is said not to be an aggressive species and will usually retreat from people, it can attack if it is provoked.

‘A red-bellied black snake made its way into the camp and decided to curl up next just inches away from the head of a stand-in as she slept in her bed,’ an executive said.

The snake’s venom can cause significant illness, including victims losing their sense of smell, however, there have been no recorded deaths from its bite to date.

‘The snake is very common in this part of Australia but is venomous and it could of been nasty with the bite causing bleeding and vomiting.’

Last month, producers were forced to close the I’m A Celebrity set due to a severe weather warning, causing a invasion of ticks and leeches.

A show medic told The Sun: ‘The rain has caused lots of leeches and ticks to fill the Jungle so the celebs will have to keep checking themselves and each other.’

The first 10 celebrities set to enter camp have been confirmed and includes the likes of royal family member Mike Tindall, pop star Boy George, and Love Island’s Olivia Attwood.

Strictly Come Dancing and comedian Seann Walsh is set to be a latecomer to the show, alongside Tory MP and former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, whose appearance has already sparked outrage.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! launches on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
