White Snake Projects will current the seventh installment of its “Sing Out Strong” sequence, “Emancipated Voices,” that includes unique works with texts by longtime Massachusetts residents and newly arrived immigrants.
Scheduled for performances all through March, “What Does Voting Mean To You?” was the immediate for composers in a Call for Entries in 2023. Composers have been chosen by a panel consisting of Carlos Carrillo, Kitty Brazelton, and White Snake’s Music Director, Tianhui Ng. The numerous group of composers chosen have been then paired with Massachusetts-based residents who shared what voting means to them. Participants vary in age from eight to 70. Four of the writers are college students at Boston International Newcomers Academy, a public highschool dedicated to lately arrived immigrants.
Jennifer Wang leads Boston Music Project’s Newbold Orchestra and youth orchestras within the premiere of the brand new works. They are joined by mezzo-soprano Chihiro Asano. More singers and a pianist shall be introduced at a later date.
Previous “Sing Out Strong” live shows have included “Immigrant Voices”, “DeColonized Voices,” “Essential Voices,” “Incarcerated Voices,” “Remembered Voices,” and “Questing Voices.”
Free performances take place Mar. 15 on the Josiah Quincy Elementary School, Mar. 26 on the Boston Public Library’s Mattapan Branch, and Mar. 27 on the Public Library of Brookline Village.
