Stomper requires a ‘monitor lizard crossing’ after one is killed at Braddell Road

Reports of untamed animals in city areas of Singapore have gotten commonplace.

The carcass of a monitor lizard was noticed at Braddell Road on Oct 8 by Stomper Joseph.
“I caught sight of two monitor lizards close to the Braddell Flyover,” he mentioned.
“The large monitor lizard was on the grass and the smaller one was killed by a car and decomposing.”

The Stomper added: “If there are street enhancements for wildlife crossing, there ought to be a monitor lizard crossing as properly.”
Before that occurs, he urged motorists to maintain a lookout for monitor lizards.

The National Parks Board has the following tips for if you encounter a monitor lizard:

  • Do not be alarmed. These animals are shy and won’t attack people except provoked or cornered.
  • Do not contact, chase or nook them as they might attack in defence. You are suggested to go away them alone. It is okay to look at them from afar.
  • Seek medical consideration instantly if (in a uncommon occasion) you might be bitten. Although monitor lizards do secrete venom, it’s not deadly to people. The important trigger for concern can be bacterial an infection from the chew.
