It is the first time the centre and mosque have organised the event, which, due to weather concerns, was held at Shepparton’s Sirius College on Saturday, November 19.

Albanian Moslem Mosque Imam Hysni Merja said a highlight of the day was that it brought people “together regardless of (their) national origins (or) beliefs”.

Hard at work: Members of the Albanian Islamic Centre Genta Kutrolli, Debbie Yze and Fehime Kutrolli, committee member Rahman Kutrolli and Moslem Mosque Imam Hysni Merja at the family fun day held at Sirius College on Saturday.

The day’s activities included an egg race, sack race, table tennis, soccer, volleyball, basketball and the main attraction, a 3.5m python brought by Reptile Encounters.

However, the event’s most important quality, according to Imam Hysni, was that it helped build a strong community.

“This activity served for many people to get to know each other, to have the opportunity to create new friendships,” he said.

Shepparton Albanian community member Braedan Meka said “it was a great day (and) a good way to connect the community”.
