At least 22 snakes of various types were recuperated from a female guest who got here in Chennai from Malaysia on Friday. The snakes were saved in numerous transparent plastic containers in her checked-in travel luggage.
Visuals from the Chennai airport revealed authorities meticulously getting the snakes utilizing a long rod with a few of them crawling out of packages on the flooring.
The lady was detained by the customizeds department on her arrival from Kuala Lumpur, authorities said.
A chameleon was likewise taken from her luggage, authorities said.
“On 28.04.23, a female pax who got here from Kuala Lumpur by Flight No. AK13 was obstructed by Customs. On assessment of her checked-in luggage, 22 Snakes of different types and a Chameleon were discovered & taken under the Customs Act, 1962 r/w Wildlife Protection act, 1972,” tweeted Chennai Customs.
