(KFVS) – Snake Road in southern Illinois closed early attributable to hotter temperatures this season.
According to a put up on the U.S. Forest Service – Shawnee National Forest Facebook web page, forest officers closed the highway on Thursday, February 22.
Snake Road, or Forest Service Road No. 35 within the Shawnee National Forest, is closed bi-annually so a number of species of snakes and amphibians can cross security throughout their time of migration.
They say the two.5-mile-long highway is often closed in early March so the animals can migrate from their winter habitat within the limestone bluffs throughout the highway to their summer season habitat in LaRue Swamp.
