The suggestions of an astrologist to a 54-year-old male from Gobichettipalayam to eliminate his headache turned dreadful when his tongue was bitten by a Russell’s viper. The scenario turned even worse after the temple priest made a deep cut on the male’s tongue leading to extreme bleeding and swelling.
On November 12, the male apparently imagined a snake and he approached an astrologist for suggestions.
The astrologist encouraged him to carry out snake praise in a temple. The temple priest went over the dream and came to a conclusion that the snake that appeared in the dream was Russell’s viper. A genuine snake was brought and the male, as directed by the priest, imitated the snake’s tongue-flickering movement throughout which the snake bit his tongue. The priest made a deep cut on the male’s tongue utilizing a knife leading to extreme discomfort, extreme bleeding and swelling.
The male was confessed to Manian Medical Centre within 20 minutes after the bite. A group led by Chief Medical professional S. Senthilkumaran discovered damage to the linguistic artery at the base of the tongue leading to excessive bleeding hindering direct visualisation of the respiratory tracts and the client fell unconscious. After he acquired awareness, the medical professionals carried out a surgical treatment to seal the cut. After 7 days, he was released.
Dr. Senthilkumaran informed The Hindu that the male went through comprehensive surgical treatment on his tongue to bring back motion and functions and included that he had the ability to speak typically now. “He nearly lost his life and individuals must work out care versus carrying out such dangerous practice of praise,” he stated. The physician included that there was an immediate requirement to implement policies to stop such practices and to inform rural neighborhoods.
