A snake in Queensland snagged a feathery snack from a Moreton Bay locals’ porch, footage posted on January 2 exhibits.
In the video, Brandon Gifford of Moreton Bay & Brisbane Snake Catchers 24/7, could be seen marveling at a carpet python hanging from the nook of the roof and wrapping itself round a pigeon.
“We’ve got a carpet python, he’s grabbed a pigeon”, Gifford stated. “So they grab, wrap, squeeze. When they do that they actually cut off the blood circulation to the animal.”
“So not only does it stop breathing its blood stops circulating its not lowing to the brain it just shuts down the whole system…”
The python could be seen hanging from the porch beams because it tries to swallow the chook entire.
Gifford explains that the snake hangs to reap the benefits of gravity whereas trying to swallow its prey.
About an hour later the python drops the lifeless chook, seemingly giving up on its catch.
“So that’s actually an introduced, invasive species that he’s been eating but he couldn’t get over it,” Gifford stated holding the chook carcass. “He got to the shoulders and he just ended up giving up.”
