A involved citizen reported a sighting of a mildly venomous dog-toothed cat snake to the wildlife monitoring workplace of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff lately in El Nido.
The snake species usually reveals a tan hue with brown saddle-shaped markings and a delicate greenish tint. Dog-toothed cat snakes (Boiga cynodon) are predominantly tree-dwelling and possess elongated slender necks and remarkably lengthy tails. While they’re categorised as technically rear-fanged snakes, their venom is delicate, and there have been no documented cases of deadly poisoning.
The Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Office of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) stated it was handed to them on October 19 by a neighborhood, Zandro Musa, in Barangay Maligaya.
Musa knowledgeable the PCSDS that they found the 1.5-meter-long snake inside their room. They handled it whereas coordinating with the PCSDS.
A rescue operation was carried out by a crew comprising members from the PCSDS, the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the El Nido Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).
Since the snake was discovered to be in good well being and appropriate for launch, it was returned to its pure habitat.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Endangered Species classifies dog-toothed cat snakes as being of “least concern.”
