Mumbai (Maharashtra): One person, who arrived from Bangkok, was arrested for allegedly smuggling snakes in biscuit and cake packets and 11 snakes have been seized from his possession, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) stated on Saturday.
The accused was apprehended by the Customs Intelligence Directorate on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport right here, officers stated, including they’ve efficiently busted one other racket of wildlife trafficking.
“Based on the tip-off, officers of the DRI Mumbai Zonal Unit arrested a person, who arrived from Bangkok on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on December 20. After checking the baggage of the person, 9 pythons and two corn snakes have been discovered mendacity within the packets of biscuits and muffins. The snakes have been seized underneath the Customs Act 1962. After investigation, the officers of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Western Region (WR), Navi Mumbai have established the identification of the seized animals,” a senior official stated.

Meanwhile, the Regional Deputy Director issued an order to ship these snakes to Bangkok for higher safety. “The snakes have been handed over to Spicejet Airlines,” the official added.
According to the official, the accused is being interrogated and essential motion will likely be taken. Meanwhile, on November 7, the Tatanagar Railway Police Force arrested a girl with almost 28 unique snakes and different bugs in Neelanchal Express.
