Modern monitor lizard

Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai has termed the Karnataka State Government Employees Association president as a modern monitor lizard. If you are wondering whether that is a praise or a jibe, here is Bommai’s explanation. During a recent programme, Bommai said that the association president was like a lizard because he was sticking to the demand. “Earlier, kings used to use monitor lizards to scale forts. Now, he is acting like a monitor lizard to stick to his demand of higher increments for the government employees. So, I appreciate his efforts,” the CM said.

Pause in abuse

BJP MLA BasanaGouda Patil Yatnal is known for his ballistic attacks. Surprisingly, he is known to attack his party leaders more than the opposition leaders. Sometime back, BJP party in charge Arun Singh had said Yatnal was not even a leader. Then there was a ceasefire between both the leaders. When the press asked Yatnal as to what had transpired between them, he said, “I have been told not to abuse leaders.” So, he was asked if he would keep quiet henceforth, and he shot back, “I have been told not to abuse my party leaders but this will not stop me from attacking opposition leaders.”

Dance trait

BJP general secretary CT Ravi is known for his oratory skills. But, recently at a local side, Ravi showed his offbeat side. Dressed in a white dhoti, Ravi was seen dancing to the drum beats. He danced continuously for the next few minutes till even those who had initially refused to dance had to join in.

Clean up act

Most roads were blocked on Friday on the eve of PM Narendra Modi’s visit. The police were posted at vantage points to ensure that there was no break in the protocol. However, a woman constable walking on a road near Maharanis College, saw that her tiffin box had accidentally slipped on the road. The lemon rice had spilled all over. She could have moved on thinking that the pourakarmikas would clean it, but she set an example by cleaning each grain of the rice from the road.

Conspicuous absence

Former Minister KS Eshwarappa was conspicuously absent during Modi’s programme in Bengaluru. When he was asked by scribes why he skipped the programme, Eshwarappa said he was happy to participate in a different programme of Kanaka Jayanti as he would get a chance to speak there while he was unsure whether he would get a chance to speak at PM’s programme. For a while, Eshwarappa has been sulking that he was not given a Cabinet berth after being forced to resign some time ago. — Sridhar Vivan
