Berhampur (Odisha): A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his spouse and two-year-old daughter by releasing a venomous snake into their room in Odisha’s Ganjam district, police stated.
The incident took place in Adheigaon village in Kabisurya Nagar space, round 60 km from right here.
The accused, recognized as Okay Ganesh Patra, was having a marital dispute together with his spouse Okay Basanti Patra (23). They have been married in 2020 and had a two-year-old daughter named Debasmita.
The accused had allegedly procured a snake from a snake charmer, deceptive him by saying that he would use the reptile for non secular functions, a police officer stated on Thursday.
On October 6, he introduced a cobra in a plastic jar and launched the snake into the room the place his spouse and daughter slept. Both have been discovered useless with snake bites the following morning, whereas the accused slept in one other room.
The police initially registered an unnatural dying case, however questioned the accused after his father-in-law lodged an FIR accusing him of being concerned within the dying of the 2, Ganjam Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena stated.
“The accused was arrested a month after the incident as there was some delay in gathering proof towards him. During interrogation, he initially denied the allegation and later claimed that the snake might need entered the room by itself. But he confessed that he dedicated the crime,” the SP stated, including additional investigation is underway.
