Larry Emdur has revealed his terrifying encounter with an enormous snake.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, the Channel Seven Morning Show host, 59, shared close up footage of a black python in his backyard.
He revealed his wife of 29 years Sylvie drew his attention to the snake after noticing it at their property.
‘Sylvie: Hey Bub you know how you always say you’re not scared of snakes? Me: Yeh. Sylvie: Well could you pop up to the shed and fix that “situation” please?’ Larry wrote.
In a second photo, Larry revealed the protective gear he wore before dealing with the reptile intruder.
The breakfast show host also carried a kayak paddle and broom.
While some fans on Instagram were shocked at his close encounter with the reptile, many insisted he had nothing to worry about since the species was a diamond python.
‘It’s a gorgeous female diamond python,’ wrote one of Larry’s followers.
Another agreed and said: ‘It’s beautiful and not dangerous, just a python. You should keep it, it will eat any rodents you might have.’
‘It won’t hurt you, it’s a beautiful python. I doubt you would have a rodent problem!!! Let it be,’ wrote another fan.
Someone else also told Larry there was no cause for alarm: ‘Such a beautiful python just looking for a warm place to snooze. You’ve got an indoor fireplace right?
‘Loving the combat suit Larry, by the way.’
The diamond python (scientific name Morelia spilota spilota) is found in coastal areas and adjacent ranges of south-eastern Australia.
The average size of the animal is 2 metres, but it has been known to reach up to 3 metres.
Like all pythons, it is non-venomous. The diamond python is an ambush predator and uses constriction to incapacitate its prey, but is generally reluctant to attack humans.
However, if harassed, the diamond python is capable of defending itself with its bite, and can leave fangs in the wound.
