A person has died after he was fatally bitten by a snake in rural Queensland.
The 69-year-old was bitten a number of occasions after attempting to take away a snake coiled round one other man’s ankle in Koumala – about 60km south of Mackay.
The incident, close to the Koumala State School, occurred about 8pm on Saturday night.
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, the person was struck a number of occasions on the chest and arm whereas attempting to help one other man.
Despite efforts from these on the scene, he deteriorated rapidly and died earlier than paramedics may attend.
