Animal activist advises residents to notify Forest Department
To her utter discouragement and shock, a Kharghar local encountered a dead snake near KPS school situated in sector 16, Kharghar. Seema Tank, an animal activist, while strolling with her animal on the night of first May, observed a snake over 2 feet long lying dead near the school.
Tank specified, “The death happened nearly two hours before because the body was attacked by ants. The head and other parts of the body of the reptile were mutilated by the miscreants, and I realized that the death was painful.”
Tank right away called 1926, and the Forest Department sent Raghunath Jadav, the snake rescuer. Jadav analyzed the snake, took the animal, and buried it near the jungle. He included, “Our duty is to rescue any reptile or snake and leave it into the jungle without harming them. Along with human beings, they have the full right to live on this earth. Every time we create awareness, we request citizens not to harm them, but to inform us, and we will rescue them.”
Tank notified the Panvel Forest Department for a query. Forest officer Vilash Satpal checked out the location and examined the CCTV video. He said, “The footage did not prove any killing or manhandling of the snake. We request the citizens; whenever anyone notices any snake or other animals, instead of harming them, call 1926; we will rescue them. People should keep in mind that under section 39 of Wild Life Protection Act 1972, killing a snake or any animal, bird is an offense, and the accused will be punished with three years’ imprisonment or twenty-five thousand penalties.”
