Jason Mraz started season 32 of “Dancing with the Stars” a little insecure. He studied musical theater but was always intimidated by the dance component. There was no sign of nerves, though, during his “Premiere Night” cha cha with pro partner Daniella Karagach, and none again when he performed a very different style of dance, the slow and difficult rumba, on “Latin Night.” See what the judges had to say about the routine, and watch it below.
Derek Hough: “Jason, wow, what can I say about that? Passion, tension, fluidity, the arms, control, the lunges, the beauty, the slickness, the sharpness — can I say more words? That was a beautiful rumba, which is a very difficult dance. Jason, you nailed it, buddy.”

Bruno Tonioli: “You two — those hips, come on! You were like two coral snakes writhing under the tropical moonlight. Seriously now, there’s a thing called Cuban motion. To get that right on week two is very rare, and you were having the right motion.”
Carrie Ann Inaba: “I have to say, there was maybe a tiny little misstep. But I have to say, beyond that, that was exceptional. This is only week two. The interpretive movement, the way you connected to the lyrics and the storytelling of the song.”
That efficiency earned them eights throughout the board for a complete of 24 out of 30, tying them with Xochitl Gomez for the highest spot on the judges’ leaderboard. It almost goes with out saying that they had been secure from elimination after viewer votes had been factored into the equation.
