Essex Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze began when the hob was mistakenly turned on and a neighboring product captured alight.
Norman Gooch, team supervisor for Dovercourt Fire Station, cautioned individuals to keep hobs clear.
“You’d marvel the number of occurrences we go to where hobs have actually been mistakenly left on or turned on by family pets.”
He said a working smoke detector signaled the businesses listed below the flat.
“I’d like to applaud the teams who continued to look for the animals inside the flat after hearing they might be therein.
“We discovered the dog concealing under the bed and teams offered it oxygen treatment while we waited on a veterinarian.”
The dog was kept over night for observation prior to it was reunited with its owners.
