The mind-blowing reason behind the name of Allen’s ‘Snakes Alive’ lollies: ‘I have been eating these for years and had no idea’
- ‘Snakes Alive’ lollies have a secret meaning
- Foodies were ‘mind blown’ to learn the fun fact
Sweet-tooth Aussies have been left reeling after discovering the reason behind the name of Allen’s Snakes Alive lollies.
Mum Krystal explained the classic treat’s name was derived from the movement the sweets make when they unfurl after being bunched up in the packet.
‘Before they go out to the market they need to be stretched so when you bunch a couple of them together and open up your hand they do move as though they’re alive,’ she explained.
Krystal showed how the trick worked in an online video with her two sons as they all squeezed the lollies in their hands and watched how they moved when they released their fingers.
‘I was today years old. Fun fact on why Allen’s Lollies snakes are called ‘Snakes Alive’,’ she captioned the clip.

Krystal’s video was viewed more than 28,4000 times and had dozens of foodies in the comments wowed by the little-known fact.
‘Haha that’s so cool!!’ one woman said and another wrote: ‘ I had no idea…I just want to eat them.’
‘Isn’t it crazy I have been eating these for years and had no idea,’ Krystal replied.
‘I’m 56 and I still curl mine up like a coiled snake and let go and it’s so cool,’ another viewer wrote.
Allen’s Lollies even commented on the video with a winking face and snake emoji neither confirming or denying if the theory was true.
