The Shawnee National Forest, situated in Southern Illinois, is home to lush oak forests, inflexible canyons and difficult geological formations.In the spring, In the spring, snakes migrate out of the Shawnee and into LaRue Swamp, solely to migrate again within the fall to return to the cliffs of the Shawnee.
In-between these locations is a well-known street recognized colloquially as “Snake Road” that has to shut twice yearly, to let the snakes go.
