A man got the fright of his life after spotting a huge snake hanging off his dashboard while driving down a motorway.
The driver had been on his way to deliver the car from a dealership and was on the A38 near Burton-on-Trent when he noticed the corn snake.
He quickly pulled into a motorway services and a local animal rescue service – Linjoy Wildlife Sanctuary and Rescue was alerted.
The sanctuary, who shared the tale on their Facebook page sent a member of staff called Mark to help deal with the unusual situation.
Unfortunately, by the time he arrived, the snake had slithered under a seat and was out of reach.
Mark convinced the man to drive to Burton-on-Trent, where the person writing the sanctuary’s Facebook post, who didn’t give their name, was waiting with their dad and some tools, ready to remove the seat.
They wrote: ‘The carpet, plastic trims and the passenger side seat all had to be removed to get access as [the snake] ended up going inside the interior and wrapping itself around the electrical looms.
‘With me securing the tail end and mid-section, Mark finally got to the head (tried to bite him) and the snake was encouraged out.’
Everything was then put back in place and the driver, who had picked up the car at a dealership in Tipton, West Midlands was free to continue to his destination in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
‘Luckily the customer was very understanding. I’m sure they wouldn’t want a snake with their purchase!’ they added.
It’s not known how the reptile ended up in the car, but the sanctuary’s Facebook post continued: ‘The snake was very cold and must have been in there for a few days.
‘He’s now doing well and is much more active and has an attitude.’
People writing underneath the post congratulated the team:
One wrote: ‘Great rescue story you legends! Not a typical one for a team in the UK but you handled it brilliantly.’
While another posted: ‘That was brave, I would have got out the car very quickly – you are brilliant, thank you for helping.’
